FOP President Brian Steel said Thursday the officer is recovering after being shot near Hamilton Avenue and 16th Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the suspect fled an attempted traffic stop, was found nearby, then opened fire as officers exited their cruiser, prompting multiple officers to return fire.
The suspect died at Grant Medical Center and has not been identified. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting.
