In a new People interview, the 80-year-old said she has been away from starring roles for six years, last appearing with partner Kurt Russell in 2020's The Christmas Chronicles 2.
Hawn said she has read many scripts she disliked or felt did not suit her, and would only come back for material she found truly funny, unusual and irresistible.
She also welcomed daughter Kate Hudson's idea of writing a project for Hawn and Russell, while discussing her 43-year relationship and her children's book due on 5 May.
