Spotify launches artist verification programme to curb fakes and AI

At launch, AI personas and profiles mainly uploading AI-generated music are ineligible, while Spotify says more than 99% of artists users actively search for will be verified.
Verified artists receive a green checkmark and badge showing Spotify has confirmed a real person is behind the profile and music, using platform activity, social media, merch sales and tour dates.
The company says eligibility also requires sustained listener engagement and approvals will roll out over time, while a separate beta feature adds label-like artist details on milestones, releases and touring.
