In April, diesel output rose to 180,000 b/d and jet fuel topped 300,000 b/d, while gasoline averaged 590,000 b/d; retail gasoline neared $5.96 a gallon and diesel $7.48.
The shift follows Hormuz disruption and two refinery closures since November 2025, including Phillips 66 Wilmington/Carson and Valero Benicia, which together removed 17.5% of California refining capacity.
Record gasoline imports reached 130,000 b/d in March, including rising shipments from India, while jet inventories fell to 2.6 million barrels and officials consider temporary CARB fuel-standard waivers.
