Parrott, 64, was found unresponsive in his cell on Tuesday while awaiting trial for the 1990 Houston killings of Cheryl Henry and Garland Atkinson.
Authorities believe Parrott died by suicide, and his death denies the victims’ families their day in court. New survivors have come forward with assault allegations since his March arrest.
Parrott was identified as a suspect after DNA from the murders matched a 1996 sample. Texas authorities are also investigating his possible connection to a Louisiana cold case.
