The Ankler, a Hollywood-based B2B entertainment publisher with 150,000 paid subscribers and $10 million annual revenue, now operates on its own website using Passport, a paywall provider by Automattic and Ben Thompson.
The move, announced by co-founders Janice Min and Richard Rushfield, enables greater platform control, improved subscriber experience, and more flexible subscription options, including standalone products and a redesigned homepage.
This transition marks The Ankler’s evolution into a multi-platform media company with 18 staff, 15 newsletters, podcasts, video, and live events, following similar exits from Substack by Platformer and Mill Media.
