German prosecutors say Kazakh national Sergej K maintained continuous contact with Russian intelligence since at least May 2025, passing details on German military aid to Ukraine and photographing NATO convoys.
Authorities allege Sergej K also offered to recruit additional agents and provided information on companies developing drones and robotic systems for defense purposes.
This arrest follows a series of Moscow-linked espionage cases in Germany since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, amid heightened tensions and accusations of Russian cyberattacks and sabotage attempts targeting Western support for Ukraine.
