Malaga lost 7,200 jobs between January and March, raising the number of unemployed by 8,200 to 116,200.
Industry was hardest hit, shedding 10,100 jobs, while services lost 1,300; agriculture and construction saw modest gains.
Despite the quarterly setback, Malaga still has 47,200 more employed than a year ago, mainly due to earlier service sector growth. Nationally, Spain's unemployment rate also rose sharply to 10.83%.
