The British Retail Consortium, Food and Drink Federation, Recruitment and Employment Confederation, and UK Hospitality jointly urged the Government to amend the Employment Rights Act proposals.
They argue that guaranteed hours could reduce job opportunities, worsen conditions, and force employers to cut hiring or shift to more casual contracts, especially as demand remains weak.
A Government spokesperson maintains the Act will provide wage certainty for over half the workforce and pledges to collaborate with both workers and employers on implementation.
