Arctic Metagaz drifts uncontrolled off Libyan coast after towline snaps

The Russian gas tanker Arctic Metagaz is adrift about 120 nautical miles north of Benghazi after its towline to a tugboat broke on April 22.
Technical issues prevented the tugboat from reattaching, leaving the vessel, which still carries large quantities of liquefied natural gas and fuel, in open waters and prompting safety warnings from Libyan authorities.
Authorities urge ships near Libya to keep at least five nautical miles away and report any gas leaks or smoke. The tanker was previously damaged by fire in March, possibly due to a drone attack.
