The campaign, scheduled for April 18–24, follows a measles outbreak that has killed up to 70 and infected about 1,000 in Labado, East Darfur, amid conflicting official figures.
The epidemic is exacerbated by war-driven health system collapse, medicine shortages, and low vaccination coverage, with many families unable to access or afford treatment for complications.
UNICEF previously completed similar campaigns in other Darfur regions, but East Darfur’s delayed response highlights the severe impact of conflict and displacement on child health and routine immunisation.
