The Canberra woman fell nearly two metres when a rusty toilet floor collapsed at Henbury Meteorites Conservation Zone, leaving her waist-deep in waste until a tradesman used a tow rope and vehicle to pull her out.
Her family drove an hour to find help due to no phone signal, and she was later treated for minor cuts at Alice Springs hospital. NT WorkSafe has classified the incident as dangerous and launched an investigation.
Pit toilets are common in remote Australia, with similar collapses reported in Victoria and Queensland in recent years. The affected site has now been cordoned off as authorities examine safety standards.
