Probably yes if the maintenance fully takes effect while the match is still using Nintendo’s online services, but Nintendo has not explicitly said whether active Smash Bros. matches will be ended instantly. What Nintendo has confirmed is that during the July 26–27 maintenance window, “online play and network services for some software will be unavailable,” and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is one of the affected games. In practice, that usually means new matchmaking, Quickplay, Battle Arenas, and other online-dependent functions can stop working once the outage begins. The unclear part is whether in-progress matches are allowed to finish or are forcibly disconnected at the exact start time. Nintendo’s notice does not guarantee either outcome. Based on how online maintenance generally works, players should assume there is a real risk of mid-match disconnection once the window opens, especially in a game like Smash that depends continuously on Nintendo’s network infrastructure. So for competitive players, the safe expectation is not to count on finishing a match that overlaps the 5:30 PM PT / 8:30 PM ET start of maintenance. If a set is important, it is best to finish before then or move it outside the window. Even if some matches survive briefly, matchmaking and arena stability may become unreliable as services go offline.

Nintendo set a 7.5-hour maintenance window starting 5:30 p.m. PT on July 26, during which online play and some network services for Switch and Switch 2 software will be unavailable.
Eight games are listed as affected: Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Nintendo Switch Sports, F-Zero 99, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet.
A separate Nintendo Switch Online maintenance session remains scheduled for Aug. 17-18, running from 10 p.m. PT to 12 a.m. PT and affecting online services across Switch platforms.
The new July 26 session adds to previously announced downtime, extending Nintendo's maintenance calendar into mid-August for players relying on online features.
