Summary
SmartAsset’s latest boomtown study put nine Texas cities and four Florida cities in the national top 20, with Georgetown and New Braunfels taking the top two spots.
The ranking tracked more than 400 cities with populations above 65,000 and scored five-year gains in economic output, housing units and labor force size to identify 75 boomtowns.
Texas placed 18 cities on the 75-city list and Florida 19, meaning the two states account for roughly half of all boomtowns even after their pandemic-era migration surge faded.
That resilience comes despite weaker recent momentum: Florida’s net domestic migration fell to 22,517 in 2025, while home prices in former boom markets such as Austin and Punta Gorda remain well below 2022 peaks.
The report suggests both states still stand out for a mix of relative housing affordability, lower living costs and job access, even as faster population and GDP growth shifts to other states.
