Xbox has begun rolling out a smart download client to Alpha Skip-Ahead Insider users, aiming to speed game installs and updates on Xbox consoles and, in some cases, Xbox PC.
The client checks available content-server pools shortly after a download starts, tests each connection, picks the fastest route, and reruns those checks during the install to keep speeds up.
The update targets a long-running complaint that Xbox download rates often lag far behind users' ISP bandwidth, sometimes compounded by installs appearing slow while data is being written to storage.
Microsoft also said the build improves general stability and performance and fixes some downloads that could hang, with broader release likely after Insider testing.
