Codeberg updated its Terms of Use to bar projects whose code is largely or fully generated by LLM tools, formalizing a community-backed policy shift.
A second vote passed 358 to 144 after members also approved banning code scraping for LLM training, tying the new rule to concerns over how such systems use open-source code.
Codeberg said the ban reflects worries about license whitewashing, rising hardware costs from AI datacenter demand, and damage to the open-source contributor community.
The move follows a similar prohibition on cryptocurrency-related projects, showing the community-run host is tightening rules on projects it sees as imposing outsized external costs.
