Summary
Newport Folk Festival headliner Hayley Williams played only two songs solo, turning her set into a guest-heavy showcase with Jack Antonoff, Jenny Lewis, Lucy Dacus, Remi Wolf and others.
Three songs got live debuts: “Leave It Alone” with Kelsey Lu, “Roses/Lotus/Violet/Iris” with Lu and Dacus, and “Find Me Here” with Madi Diaz and Lu.
Williams also revisited newer solo material, performing “Mirtazapine” with Wednesday’s Karly Hartzman a year after its first live outing at the same festival and adding collaborations with Joy Oladokun, Liam Benzvi and This Is Lorelei’s Nate Amos.
The set closed with Antonoff on acoustic versions of Bleachers’ “I Wanna Get Better” and Williams’ “Good Ol’ Days,” before a group singalong of Bill Withers’ “Lean On Me.”
Later that night, Williams extended her Newport run by joining Courtney Barnett’s aftershow at Newport Blues Cafe.
