Summary
Bryce Ramsey, 40, said a stage 3 colon cancer diagnosis at age 33 turned her into an advocate using her 2024 Mrs. Mississippi Plus America title to promote screening and genetic testing.
Worsening blood in her stool led to a colonoscopy in 2019, and surgery removed 3 feet of colon and 13 lymph nodes before she began IV and oral chemotherapy in January 2020.
Genetic testing later showed Ramsey has Lynch syndrome, an inherited condition that raises colon, uterine and ovarian cancer risk and now requires yearly colonoscopies, scans and bloodwork.
That testing also pushed relatives to get screened: her brother caught colon cancer at stage 1, while her father and aunt were also diagnosed after her warning.
Ramsey says her case shows colon cancer symptoms can be missed even in younger adults without known family history, a message she now carries in speeches and lobbying for testing funds.
