GitHub Copilot Adds Claude Opus 5 for Complex Coding Across 10+ Surfaces

Summary
Claude Opus 5 is now rolling out in GitHub Copilot for Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise users, targeting long-running coding work that needs multi-step reasoning and tool coordination.
Early testing showed the model performed strongly on agentic coding workflows, including autonomous code changes, regression verification and targeted edits while reducing unnecessary execution overhead.
Enhanced safeguards for high-harm cyber content may block some security-related prompts, and GitHub says users may need to add benign context or switch to another model.
Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains, Xcode, Eclipse, Copilot CLI, GitHub.com, the Copilot app, cloud agent and GitHub Mobile are included in the rollout, though availability will be gradual.
Business and Enterprise admins must enable a Claude Opus 5 policy in Copilot settings, while billing follows provider API list pricing under Copilot's usage-based model.
