China Holds Emergency Typhoon Meeting as Up to 3 Storms Threaten in 10 Days

Up to three typhoons could form in the northwestern Pacific and South China Sea over the next 10 days, according to the National Meteorological Centre.
Widespread heavy rain is already battering much of the country, including areas still recovering from recent storms, while swollen rivers, full lakes and saturated soil are raising flash-flood, landslide and mountain-torrent risks.
The China Meteorological Administration, Ministry of Water Resources and Ministry of Natural Resources joined the meeting as officials warned a new typhoon would pose a “complex and severe” challenge.
