Crews overnight built direct control lines around the Akawa Butte Fire and cleared debris around threatened structures as calmer weather briefly moderated fire behavior.
By noon, firefighters aimed to secure lines south of SW Jordan Road before winds shift from north-northeast to west-northwest, with aircraft concentrating on the southern flank north of Sisters.
Indian Ford Road, Middle View Road and the stretch between Green Ridge Road and Meadow View Road remain closed, while Central Electric cut power to some homes from Stevens Canyon Road to Pine Glen Road and north of Indian Ford Road.
Weather is expected to turn more hostile quickly: humidity that reached 100% overnight is forecast to fall to 30% by midday, temperatures to the low 90s, and a dry, windy pattern to persist into the weekend.
A 6:30 p.m. community meeting at Sisters High School will provide updates as evacuation orders, federal land closures and smoke impacts continue around the fire area.
