Wu Orders Tremont Review, Truck Safety Push After 36-Year-Old Cyclist's Death

Summary
Boston will launch a comprehensive safety and urban design review of the Tremont Street corridor in Mission Hill after transportation planner Louisa Gag, 36, was killed there by a truck on July 9.
Wu's plan pairs that corridor review with a citywide bike-lane assessment, promising more durable barriers during resurfacing work and quick-build protections this year around Boston Common, the Public Garden and Western Avenue.
Large trucks are a common factor in most fatal cyclist crashes, the mayor said, prompting a push for new truck-safety legislation and a review of heavy commercial vehicle routes through the city.
Wu also reassigned former Streets chief Chris Osgood and policy deputy Tali Robbins to support the Streets Cabinet full-time and will form an advisory group to assess the department.
The reforms come as Wu, criticized by some over bike-lane expansion, says Boston has reset its capital-project process and is already applying it to MBTA-linked street projects across the city.
