ESA, León Launch Free Aug. 12 Eclipse Event as Northern Spain Nears Totality

Summary
12 August 2026 will bring a free public eclipse event in León, organized by ESA, the city and the University of León, with talks, workshops and live observation throughout the day.
Northern Spain is one of the best places to see totality, which will be visible only from Greenland, Iceland, northern Spain and a small part of northeastern Portugal.
10:00–14:00 CEST indoor activities will focus on the Sun, eclipses, space missions, aerospace engineering and safe viewing, aimed at families and visitors of all ages.
17:30–21:45 CEST outdoor programming will guide spectators through the eclipse with expert commentary; free certified eclipse glasses will be handed out while supplies last.
19:30 CEST live coverage from Javalambre in Teruel will stream in English on ESA Web TV and YouTube for people unable to attend León.
