Season 4 takes place years before David’s adult appearance in the films, and earlier setup in *Strange New Worlds* already established Carol Marcus as pregnant. That gives the series room to introduce David as a very young child, likely a toddler, without altering the broad canon endpoint. Showrunners Henry Alonso Myers and Akiva Goldsman have signaled that the goal is a “rethink,” not a rewrite. Their approach is to explore Kirk’s emotional struggle over fatherhood and duty rather than depict him as simply abandoning his son. Paul Wesley has also framed this as a story about Kirk being forced to choose between Starfleet and being a present father. That matters because the films never fully detailed David’s earliest years. New official images map out most of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 after the premiere, with nine episodes still to come through Sept. 24.
