The playoff path is still there, but it now looks much harder than it did at the start of camp.

An MRI on Thursday confirmed Nic Scourton tore his right ACL on the first day of Panthers training camp, ending the second-year edge rusher’s 2026 season.
The injury happened late in team drills on a wet field while Scourton was engaged with an offensive lineman, and he was carted off as teammates and coach Dave Canales came over to embrace him.
Scourton had emerged as a key starter after playing all 17 games as a rookie, posting 47 tackles, five sacks and nine quarterback hits for Carolina’s 15th-ranked defense.
Dave Canales said the Panthers trust their depth to absorb the loss, but Bryce Young called Scourton a high-energy competitor who had already become a defensive leader.
