Today Tightens Studio Access After 41-Year-Old Man Faces Hate Crime Charges

NBC's "Today" has imposed stricter studio rules effective immediately, limiting each interview guest to two accompanying staffers after last week's security breach involving Craig Melvin.
Andrew Truelove, 41, allegedly slipped through a security gate at Rockefeller Center, sought out Al Roker, then shouted a racial slur at Melvin in a restricted vestibule before police arrested him.
No one was physically hurt, but NBC said it is reviewing security protocols and cooperating with the NYPD investigation; the lapse reportedly cost one security guard his job.
Truelove is being held on $10,000 bail on hate crime, burglary and menacing charges after pleading not guilty, and he is due back in court on Aug. 5.
Court records and prior reports show a long criminal history in Virginia and New York, including a 2007 attempted abduction conviction and more than a dozen pending New York charges.
