White House Seizes on 6,600 New Jersey Voter Registrations to Push SAVE Act

Karoline Leavitt said New Jersey’s disclosure that 6,600 noncitizens were registered to vote vindicates the administration’s election-integrity warnings and should spur Senate passage of the SAVE Act before the August recess.
New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill said Tuesday the registrations came through the state’s motor vehicle system because of a “serious software error,” while the identity-security vendor involved denied wrongdoing.
Leavitt questioned the timing of Sherrill’s announcement, arguing it followed President Donald Trump’s renewed election-security push and claiming the problem likely extends beyond New Jersey.
Trump last week said DHS would notify states about noncitizens on voter rolls and order removals, while DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin warned election officials who ignore that information could face fines, penalties or prison.
