New York placed seventh among all 50 states and Washington, D.C., in WalletHub’s latest economy ranking, posting an overall score of 57.58.
WalletHub based the list on 28 indicators across economic activity, economic health and innovation potential, using measures from GDP growth and unemployment to startup activity and high-tech jobs.
New York’s strongest showing was economic activity at No. 4, and it also logged the nation’s third-highest change in GDP; its weaker spots were economic health at No. 31 and innovation potential at No. 22.
Massachusetts, Washington and Utah led the ranking, while West Virginia finished last, underscoring how uneven state-level economic strength remains across the U.S.
