Summary
Two Southern Maryland residents tested positive after traveling to a U.S. area with an active measles outbreak, state health officials said.
Three exposure sites were identified: J&R Feeds in Mechanicsville from July 16-21, MedStar Health Urgent Care in Charlotte Hall on July 20, and MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital ER in Leonardtown on July 21.
Measles can surface 10 to 21 days after exposure and spreads through coughing, sneezing and contaminated air; officials urged anyone exposed to watch for fever, cough, red eyes and a spreading rash.
Maryland has now logged 11 cases in 2026, up from 3 in 2025 and 1 in 2024, while the CDC had counted 2,260 U.S. cases as of July 16.
