Sony, Alamo Drafthouse Eye Reopening 14-Screen Cinerama Dome Complex After 5-Year Closure

Sony and its Alamo Drafthouse chain are in talks to take over Hollywood’s Cinerama Dome and adjacent 14-screen ArcLight complex, which has been shut since March 2020.
A likely-approved alcohol permit could clear a practical hurdle to reopening the site, whose owners said in May they hoped to set a time frame in the near future.
The push comes as moviegoing has strengthened this summer, with demand rising for premium large-format screenings and few venues able to show formats such as Imax 70mm or 70mm film.
Los Angeles exhibition has also been reviving more broadly, with Glendale’s Alex Theatre returning to first-run films and Westwood’s Village Theatre relaunching as Directors Village.
