Toyota Tests 400-HP 2.0L Mid-Engine Coupe at Fuji as MR2 Revival Nears

Fuji Speedway footage shows Toyota running a compact mid-engine coupe prototype with GR Yaris-style lights, large side vents and boxy rear flares—its clearest MR2 revival test car yet.
A new 2.0-liter four-cylinder, not the GR Yaris' 1.6-liter three-cylinder, powers the mule and is expected to produce about 400 horsepower.
Toyota is also pairing the midship layout with all-wheel drive, a combination Gazoo Racing engineering chief Naohiko Saito said early testing found best for high-performance driving.
The prototype builds on Toyota's earlier mid-engine 'Concept M' GR Yaris test mule and suggests the company is validating the car through motorsport before any public debut or production launch.
