It is unlikely Cory Mills will be expelled before the November 2026 election. The main reason is timing and procedure. The Justice Department investigation is active but undisclosed, and federal criminal probes typically take months or longer. Mills has not been charged. The House Ethics Committee investigation is also still open and appears extensive, with subpoenas, witness interviews and document collection still underway. That makes a final ethics report or recommendation before the election uncertain. Even if the Ethics Committee were to act soon, expulsion is difficult. The House must approve it by a two-thirds vote, a very high threshold that is rarely met. House leaders have so far pointed to the ongoing ethics process rather than moving directly toward expulsion, and there is no sign of a completed case ready for a floor vote. The pressure on Mills is still serious. He faces allegations involving campaign finance, financial disclosures, sexual misconduct, dating violence, misuse of resources and possible conflicts tied to business dealings. Rep. Nancy Mace has filed a motion to expel him, and his political standing has weakened as he seeks another term. But a filed motion is not the same as a successful expulsion effort. So the most realistic near-term scenario is that voters, not the House, decide his immediate political future in the August primary and November general election, unless investigators produce major new findings very quickly.

Mills' office did not respond to ABC's request for comment; before the ethics probe began, he said the sexual-misconduct claims were false and accused a former primary rival of weaponizing the legal system.
Mills, first elected in 2022 and reelected in 2024 to represent Florida's 7th District, serves on the House Armed Services and Intelligence committees as the parallel investigations deepen.
