$2.53 billion in mineral exports marked Zimbabwe’s highest-ever January-June total, up from $1.38 billion a year earlier and driven by stronger global demand and firmer commodity prices.
Local processing before export helped lift revenue realization, with officials crediting beneficiation policies for shifting sales toward higher-value products rather than raw minerals.
Platinum group metals led earnings with about 34% of sales, while spodumene concentrates contributed 26.6% and PGM concentrates 13.7%, together generating more than 74% of export income.
MMCZ said it is expanding digital tracking and laboratory capacity to tighten mineral valuation and accountability as Zimbabwe pushes processed exports such as ferrochrome, steel, polished granite and lithium sulphate.
The export surge supports Zimbabwe’s bid to move up the battery-minerals supply chain, even as its tighter lithium export rules and processing deadlines expose the difficulty of replacing raw shipments with local refining.
