Douglas County Loses 560 Jobs Over Year to June as Unemployment Holds at 6.2%

Douglas County’s seasonally adjusted payroll employment fell by 560 jobs from June 2025 to June 2026, a 1.5% decline, with losses spread across retail trade, construction, government and manufacturing.
Manufacturing drove the drop, shedding 290 jobs, while government lost 130 and leisure and hospitality 120; gains were limited to private education and health services, up 80, and professional and business services, up 70.
From May to June, the county lost 100 jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis, though unadjusted estimates showed a 90-job gain in leisure and hospitality and a 30-job gain in mining, logging and construction.
The county’s unemployment rate held at 6.2% in June, unchanged from May and a year earlier, remaining above Oregon’s 5.2% rate and the U.S. rate of 4.2%.
