Probably not, at least not yet. What Lionsgate has done with *La La Land* looks more like a one-off anniversary tweak than the start of an industrywide shift. The change is narrowly tied to the film’s 10th-anniversary re-release, Ryan Gosling had publicly joked for years about regretting the flat-handed “La La hand” pose, and Lionsgate says the revised art has his approval. That makes this less a redesign trend than a playful correction to a very specific, well-known detail. Lionsgate unveiled a revised La La Land poster that corrects Ryan Gosling’s long-mocked “flat hand” pose ahead of the film’s 10th-anniversary campaign.
Aug. 16 marks the movie’s return to theaters, with the Oscar-winning musical set for an anniversary re-release in Dolby Cinema at AMC Theatres.
Gosling had said in a 2024 Wall Street Journal interview that the original 2016 poster “haunted” him because his hand position “killed the energy.”
The renewed push also extends beyond cinemas: a Broadway musical adaptation is in development for the film, which won 6 Oscars.
