Burnham Pledges 20% Business Rate Cut for Pubs, Funded by Online Warehouse Levies

Andy Burnham said after winning the Makerfield by-election that Labour has room to move on tax, reviving a pledge to cut business rates for hospitality businesses.
A campaign document promised pubs, clubs and music venues a 20% rate cut, while smaller independent hospitality, leisure and retail firms would see the threshold for paying business rates raised for the first time since 2017.
His team said the relief would be funded by higher levies on giant warehouses used by online firms such as Amazon.
Hospitality UK chair Kate Nicholls said taxes, business rates and other regulatory costs are keeping restaurant and hotel prices rising faster than overall inflation, arguing tax cuts would help lower living costs.
