Electra Commits $850 Million to Ohio EL9 Plant, Creating 1,975 Jobs

$850 million will fund a 96-acre Electra production site at Springfield’s AirPark Ohio, where the Virginia company plans to create 1,975 jobs over the next decade.
The plant will build the nine-passenger hybrid-electric EL9 Ultra Short, an aircraft designed for 50-250 mile trips that can take off and land in 150 feet or less.
Springfield won the project after a year-long search across more than 140 sites; Electra cited the area’s advanced air mobility ecosystem near Beckley Municipal Airport and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
Electra aims to move into the facility by 2028, start construction as early as next year, and ramp output from 400 aircraft annually to 800 in later phases.
Ohio officials said the project could transform Clark County, with average pay estimated at $92,000 and state support expected through tax credits and JobsOhio assistance.
