Cape May County was hit by two waterspouts and a brief tornado Tuesday as severe storms swept South Jersey, with a Flash Flood Warning left in effect there until 2:45 a.m.
Three Tornado Warnings were issued for Cape May and Ocean counties after thunderstorms fed by high humidity produced damaging winds, possible large hail and repeated rounds of heavy rain.
A cold front moving in from the northwest drove the strongest threat from the Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia area into Delaware and South Jersey during the afternoon and evening.
Conditions were expected to improve overnight, but forecasters still warned of scattered storms Wednesday in Delaware and South Jersey with a lower severe risk and continued flash-flood potential.
