More than 4,800 Pleasanton-area residents were under evacuation orders by 6 p.m. Tuesday as the Little Fire spread through dry hills in Sunol, over 30 miles southeast of San Francisco.
The blaze had burned 700 acres and was threatening the Ruby Hill golf-course community and other nearby suburban homes, though Cal Fire said no structures had been damaged.
Hot weather above 90 degrees and limited access were hampering firefighters, who were attacking the fire with ground crews, air tankers and helicopters; earlier Tuesday it was listed at 0% containment.
The fire is also burning near a decommissioned nuclear facility, whose owner NorthStar said it was evaluating the incident.
