Preston and Marie Parrish filed a federal complaint on July 17 alleging they fell ill after eating Taco Bell food with shredded iceberg lettuce in Shiawassee County on June 30.
The suit says the lettuce was contaminated with Cyclospora and supplied by Taylor Farms, tying their illnesses to a multistate outbreak under FDA and CDC investigation.
1,644 confirmed cases and about 94 hospitalizations had been reported across Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia as of July 16, with no deaths reported.
The couple seeks more than $75,000 plus fees, alleging negligence, strict liability, breach of warranty and Michigan consumer-protection violations against Taco Bell entities and Taylor Fresh Foods.
The complaint also claims Taylor Farms knew of Cyclospora risks from prior produce outbreaks and that Taco Bell controlled supplier approvals; neither company had responded in court by July 21.
