Summary
About 6,600 people who identified themselves as noncitizens were registered to vote in New Jersey between June 2023 and June 2024, Governor Mikie Sherrill said.
The registrations stemmed from a software error in the state’s motor vehicle system during driver’s license and ID card applications.
Applicants had answered “no” on a keypad when asked whether they were US citizens, according to Sherrill’s statement posted on social media.
