Eastern U.S. Faces 3-Day Severe Storm Threat as Level 3 Risk Targets Ohio Valley

Summary
Tuesday brings the highest immediate risk, with a Level 3 of 5 severe weather threat across parts of the Ohio Valley and flash-flood danger from the Midwest to the Northeast.
Strong winds aloft, warm moist air and a cold front are fueling storms capable of damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes, with repeated downpours likely along the I-95 corridor and central Appalachians.
Monday storms already developed from northern Iowa into Wisconsin and Michigan, then merged into a fast-moving line that shifted the threat toward widespread straight-line winds; North Carolina also saw damaging-storm potential.
Wednesday the severe threat shifts into the southern Mid-Atlantic and Carolinas under a Level 2 of 5 risk, while a slowing front taps tropical moisture and raises flooding danger from Raleigh to the Outer Banks and Wilmington.
By Thursday, the front is expected to sag closer to the coast, extending a multiday flooding threat in places that could see a fourth straight day of heavy rain.
