Jordan Intercepts 3 Iranian Missiles and 5 Drones as US Death Toll Reaches 17

Jordan said its air defenses shot down three Iranian missiles Tuesday afternoon and five drones overnight and Tuesday morning after they targeted Jordanian territory; authorities reported no casualties or damage.
The interceptions extended a second straight day of Iranian attacks on Jordan, days after two U.S. troops were killed there on July 17 while defending against Iranian ballistic missile and drone strikes.
The wider conflict also claimed Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30, killed July 19 in Iraq during a controlled detonation of a downed Iranian drone, bringing U.S. military deaths tied to the conflict to 17.
Washington responded with a new round of CENTCOM strikes on Iranian command centers, missile and drone launch sites, maritime assets and air defenses, saying the operation aimed to protect shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
As the confrontation spread, the State Department issued a worldwide caution for Americans, the UAE condemned Iranian attacks on Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait, and a ship near the Strait of Hormuz reported damage from an unknown projectile.
