Andrew Truelove, 41, Faces Hate Crime Charges After NBC Studio 1A Slur Attack

NYPD arrested Andrew Truelove, 41, at 8:57 a.m. after he allegedly entered a restricted vestibule near NBC's Studio 1A and hurled a racial slur at Today co-host Craig Melvin.
Court records show Truelove is charged with hate-crime burglary, a felony, and menacing, a misdemeanor; NBC said security detained him quickly, no one was injured, and the network is reviewing protocols.
Footage reviewed from the July 16 broadcast appears to show a man resembling Truelove outside Rockefeller Center from 8:03 a.m. to 8:34 a.m., including removing a backpack and placing it near a bush.
Virginia and New York records show a criminal history spanning at least two decades, including a 2007 attempted kidnapping conviction, trespassing, bomb-threat and property-destruction cases, and several pending New York charges; he is being held on $10,000 bail.
Truelove is due back in court Wednesday as investigators continue examining how he reached an area not open to the public during a live national broadcast.
