Memphis Mother Charged With 1st-Degree Murder in Child-Bed Shooting

Kendra Scott, 36, was charged with first-degree murder and a firearm felony after police said she shot Rodderius Morton, who was later found in her front yard with a gunshot wound to the back of the head.
An affidavit says Scott told police she found “a dude” under her child’s bed and “did what I had to do,” but investigators said Morton was unarmed when he left the home and argued with her.
A juvenile witness told police Scott was yelling “Who’s at my house?” before entering the home, while another witness said Morton had been invited in through the back door and a single shot was heard on the front porch.
Court documents also cite a prior remark allegedly made by Scott that if she saw “a boy” in her house, she would “put a hole” in him; she is being held without bond.
