Not yet. The newly reported Switch 2 exploit is a meaningful milestone for modders, but it is not comparable to the flaw that made the original Switch so vulnerable. What has been found is a userland exploit, reportedly tied to save data and dependent on Nintendo Online save transfer. That means it runs inside an app or game context, not at the system’s deepest level. In practical terms, it may help homebrew research and limited experimentation, but it does not currently allow piracy or a full system jailbreak. That is a sharp contrast with the original Switch. Its hacking scene accelerated because researchers found major boot ROM vulnerabilities early in the console’s life. Those flaws were embedded in the hardware’s startup code and could not be fully patched by software, which is why piracy and leaked games became such persistent problems. The Switch 2 situation looks more contained. Because this exploit appears to rely on online save transfer and likely current firmware, Nintendo has more room to block or patch it. Reports of other userland entry points also do not change the bigger picture: userland access is only an early foothold unless it can be chained into deeper kernel or boot-level control. So this may be the first step in a technical sense for the homebrew scene, but it is not, at least for now, the start of a repeat of the original Switch’s piracy-driven history.
