But the new CBA is designed to make exactly this kind of star-stacking far harder. Teams near or above the first and second aprons face major limits on trades, exceptions and roster-building flexibility, and Miami is already squeezed. The key issue is that the Heat are reported to be hard-capped at the first apron after the Giannis deal and use of the non-taxpayer midlevel exception. Separate cap projections in the material also place Miami already around or above the apron range for 2026-27 with Giannis, Bam Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins, Bobby Portis and the rest of the roster. That means there is little realistic room to add LeBron at anything close to a star salary. Even if James, still productive at 41, is no longer seeking a full max, his market value would still be substantial. Adding him without major salary dumping would likely push Miami beyond the apron barriers. Under the current rules, that is not just expensive; it can be structurally unworkable. So a Miami superteam is only plausible if LeBron takes a dramatic discount and the Heat clear significant money elsewhere. Without that kind of sacrifice, the new financial rules make a LeBron-Giannis-Bam trio much more fantasy than feasible.
