A phishing campaign using the subject line “You are Invited to Something Special” is spreading through email, luring recipients to click a “View the Card” link.
That link can send victims to a fake Google or Gmail login page that steals email credentials in real time, letting attackers access inboxes, reset passwords and resend the scam to contacts.
The same phishing site may also trigger a malicious file download that opens a persistent back door, enabling screen spying, keystroke tracking and file theft.
Carroll County IT Director Jason Stanley said users should avoid clicking suspicious links, check the sender’s full address by hovering over it, and delete doubtful messages.
Anyone who clicked the link should change passwords immediately; Stanley also recommended using a password manager and unique passwords because a main email account can unlock banking, credit and identity data.
