A third expanded edition of Rabbi Tuvia Bloi’s Rashi's Principles was published in 2018, cataloging 620 interpretive rules drawn from the Rebbe’s approach to Rashi.
Bloi said the project grew out of years of tracking principles in the Rebbe’s talks on Rashi, which began in 1964 and gradually revealed a systematic method for explaining scripture’s plain meaning.
The work took decades to complete: Bloi first distilled about seven core rules, published an essay, then was urged by the Rebbe’s office to turn it into a standalone volume.
A first edition appeared for the Rebbe’s 1980 birthday, a second followed 11 years later, and the latest edition fulfills the Rebbe’s expressed wish for a third, broader release.
