A six-square-kilometre wildfire in the Cairngorms has been largely surrounded after several days of firefighting, with police on Sunday escorting residents and campers back briefly to collect belongings.
More than 100 firefighters made significant progress as low winds and Saturday rain helped crews extinguish large sections of the blaze, which started Wednesday near Ryvoan Bothy south of Nethy Bridge.
Six appliances and specialist resources remain on scene, backed by helicopters, drones and a high-volume pump drawing water from Loch Morlich to reach difficult terrain.
Roadblocks are still in place and the public has been told to avoid Glenmore, Abernethy, Loch Morlich and nearby areas, with homes, businesses, campsites and a ski resort previously evacuated.
The incident remains live and parts of the surrounding area could stay off limits for some time, with the fire service set to review its presence over coming days depending on weather and fire behavior.
